PUNCTURE KIT FEATURED IN MODERN DRUMMER MAGAZINE JULY 2014
Welcome to the official page of PUNCTURE KIT – The Bicycle Drummer. David Osborne is the designer and drummer of Puncture Kit – his transport and drum kit. He is also the guy behind ACTIVE BEATS, the new electronic music making course for primary schools. This is an educational course involving sampling sounds from natural sources and making electronic music from them. Check out the ACTIVE BEATS website for all the info.
David designed Puncture Kit after arriving from Australia to the UK in 2008. As an avid cyclist, he bought his single speed bike when he first arrived. With his bike turned upside down, fixing a puncture in London’s Green Park one day…the idea just came…drums are going on that. Since then, David has dedicated himself to the on-going study of drumming and percussion and the challenge of developing his drumming solo performances and recordings. His approach to his drumming is mainly self taught through studying many drummers and musicians. He has also studied with world class drummer Benny Greb where he learnt invaluable techniques, musicianship and Benny’s unique rythmic principles. A Puncture Kit live show (either drumming only or his show with punchy, original and bass heavy electronic jungle/ breakbeat music) is an energetic mash up of popular drum breaks – jungle, breakbeat, hip hop, funk, dubstep, jazz… and David’s own musical creations. He plays these dynamic performances for festivals/ events, schools and private shows. Performances have included The 2013 and 2014 Tour De France, The BRIT Awards after party 2013 at London’s 02 Arena, The London 2012 Olympic Games Cycling Race, Glastonbury Dance Village and many schools. He also provides his dynamic drumming/ percussion to accompany live DJ sets. ( check out a sample of his live drumming/ DJ set at The 2013 BRIT Awards After Party ). A list of other performances can be found on the biography page. During 2010/11, David spent nearly one year travelling throughout Malawi, Africa, with Puncture Kit visiting remote orphan communities and schools…( please visit the photos page ). He kicked off this trip with an appearance at Lake of Stars, a festival that promotes Malawian arts and tourism through international interaction and exposure. During 2013/14, David was busy producing a live drumming/ percussion sample pack for production sample company, Loopmasters which is now released. Full details on where to purchase and a demo of this pack are available on the samples page. Puncture Kit and his music loop pack “Beats Cycling” are featured in the world’s # 1 drumming magazine MODERN DRUMMER.
Teaming up with the production engineering skills of Castro UK, Puncture Kit has a unique drumming album release titled “The Bicycle Drummer”. 10 tracks of breakbeat, Latin, jungle, funk, African…all original drum tracks…all recorded live on Puncture Kit. For a copy, please visit the music section.
